Learn to take control of your camera

» Have you recently taken up photography as a hobby?

» Are you looking to better understand how the physics of photography work?

» Looking to move away from the “Auto” setting and take control of the camera?

» Find photography jargon confusing?

» Purchased an expensive camera and the photos are not what you hoped for?

I am currently planning some low cost 1 day photography workshops up in the hills of the Algarve, these one day workshops are being designed to teach a greater understanding of the basics of photography. Once the planning is complete, come to São Marcos da Serra for a full day’s fun packed and very hands-on learning, including getting around the village for practice shooting.

What equipment will you need?
Although the workshops will be tailored for DSLR and Mirrorless cameras, any camera that is able to be switched to Manual Mode will be suitable (if in doubt, please Contact Me). Thinking of getting a camera and want to learn the basics first? I hope to have a loan camera available for each workshop on a first-come, first-served basis.

What topics are covered?
The workshops will cover the following;

» Camera Orientation – Overview of the buttons, menu options and jargon
» Exposure Triangle – Learn all about aperture, shutter speed and ISO along with how they affect each other
» Focus (Auto and Manual) – Learn how to focus properly
» Camera Modes – Learn about the non-automatic settings
» White Balance – Learn about capturing the correct colours
» Depth of Field – Learn all about what should be in focus and what shouldn’t and how to control this
» Metering – Learn how the camera calculates the correct lighting
» Composition – Learn to understand what makes a scene look good as photo
» Plus much much more, never use the Auto mode again!

Where is São Marcos da Serra?
São Marcos da Serra is a small village nestled in the beautiful Northern Algarve Hills which make up part of the Silves area. It takes 20 minutes to drive North from Albufeira on the IC1. For more information, take a look on

Google Maps and on www.saomarcosdaserra.com.

The workshops participation will be kept to small numbers to ensure everyone has adequate attention and are going to be very hands-on rather than fully classroom based.

If you’d rather not be part of a group, I will also be offering One-to-One and One-to-Two workshops.

During the planning stage I will be running (at least) one test workshop to ensure the timings and content is adequate. I will be looking for volunteers to participate in the workshop and in return will offer these places free of charge. If this is of interest to you, then please Contact Me to reserve your place!

At present, all workshops are currently being planned to be delivered in English.
