Yes, believe it or not, the sunshine capital of Europe can get cold, particularly up in the Serra.
We’ve had a few cold nights recently, last night dipped below freezing and there was a good ground frost. However, as soon as the sun comes up, the frost instantly melts.
I was out just before sunset and walked down to the local Barragem (same location as the Sunset Reflection at the Barragem photo a few nights ago) to photograph the sunrise.
{Click image for a higher resolution, click Flickr Link in caption to view photo on Flickr}This first photo is made up of 3 separate shots of the same scene. The first shot was taken with the focus on the foreground, the second shot with an identical exposure was taken with the focus on the background. Then a third shot is taken with the focus still on the background, but the aperture changed to f/22 with the exposure changed to match the first two shots. The reason for this 3rd shot is shooting a bright light at f/22 creates the starburst effect.
All 3 shots have then been layer stacked in Photoshop to create the final image with everything in focus and a starburst on the sun.
Yes, the photo could of just been taken with f/22 and it would probably have everything in focus and the starburst in one shot. However, the final image quality at f/22 would suffer.
On the walk back from the Barragem, the sun was high enough in the sky to be lighting an Orange Tree, but the frost hadn’t completely melted on the ground, Chilled Fresh Orange anyone?
