(Birthday) Morning Dog Walk: A New Bird Spot For Me!

I take a camera along on my Dog Walks to bring you some of the sightings that I see on my morning walks, these photos are rarely going to be great quality as its hard enough keeping an energetic Dog entertained and get close enough to anything. They also help me identify where species are so that I can plan to return.

First of all, a huge Happy 2nd Birthday to my sidekick Wally! We don’t know his actual birthday as of course, we rescued him from the dual-carriageway in Faro. However, we counted back 8 months which is what the vet approximated his age to be when we took him in! Without Wally, I probably wouldn’t get up and about every morning and spot some of the things I do and this morning was a new spot for me, read on……

Happy 2nd Birthday to this crazy fool!

I spotted a bird in a nearby Esteva bush and had no idea what it was. I hadn’t seen one before. Remarkably, it let me get quite close for a quick shot, albeit in terrible light. After taking the photo, I was able to identify it (using the Merlin App) as a (Western) Subalpine Warbler. Not quite a rare bird, but not seen too often. I have a feeling this is a female as it doesn’t seem as colourful as I’d expect the male to be. It’s a little early for it to be returning, but not uncommon for them to arrive slightly earlier than their usual end of March due date.
