Wally On The Wall

Yesterday morning I snapped this shot of Wally running through some spring flowers, the light was great, but the sky behind him was thick white clouds. So I set to work processing the photo and gave it a vintage-retro look which works really well with the horrible sky. It is one of my favourite photos of Wally and we love it so much I have printed it in A3 to go on the wall in the house.

Don’t forget, I offer a “Dogs-In-Nature” Photo Shoot service where I come to you to capture photos of your dog(s) doing what they do best! More information on the Dogs-In-Nature Photo Shoot. Gift Vouchers are also available too!

Big Catchup Post With Lots of Pictures!

It’s been a busy week and I’ve not shared much with you, so a bit of a monster blog post with lots of content.

First, I’d like to thank friends Jacquie and Neal for our quick safari drive around the Castro Verde area in the Alentejo Steppe after I was at the LPN centre to discuss some future opportunities. There wasn’t really much chance of close up work, but we did see some great sights.

First up, a large group of Montagu’s Harriers displaying.

Morning Dog Walk: Today All About Wally!

Wally has been a little unwell for a few days, he has been suffering from terrible sickness and diarrhoea and as he’s a big baby when it comes to things like this, he has been feeling really sorry for himself.

Today he seems back to normal, his appetite is back and was running around like the crazy fool he is, so this morning’s walk, I ignored the Bee-Eaters flying around, ignored Bluey and snapped a few photos of him. Oh and I haven’t seen Roxy for a while so I’m guessing she is possibly now sitting on eggs. In case you are new and wondering what I’m talking about, Bluey and Roxy are a local pair of Blue Rock Thrushes.

Don’t forget, if you fancy some photos of your Dog(s) why not book one of my Dogs-In-Nature Photo Shoots!

The Importance Of Clean Equipment

As you may have read in previous posts, I have recently been having an issue with my Nikon AF-S 80-400mm lens. It was having trouble locking on focus and keeping locked on with Continuous Auto Focus. It would “hunt” making a terrible mechanical noise. I thought it was time to be sent off for a motor service.

I’m not actually sure what fixed the issue, but a full clean of both front and rear elements, a clean of the electrical contacts (which is what I believe to have been the problem) on the lens, a blow with my Giotto’s Rocket Blower and also a blow on the camera mirror itself and as you can see from yet another Wally action shot that everything is back as it should. Remember, for all the electronic wizardry such as Auto Focus and Metering, the camera needs a clear view of the reflected light.

Practice Practice Practice…..

For those that have attended one of my Workshops will know how much I stress that you have to practice photography. This isn’t the case just for beginners learning, but also experienced photographers.

You will often see me using Wally as my model whilst out walking him in the mornings. He loves the “Stay….Stay….Stay….Fetch!” game and this morning we had a lot of fun. Not only is this practice good for technique and the technical aspects of the camera, but also helps with framing and artistic approach.

Here’s a few shots of Wally from this morning.
