Full Moon Rising

This photo is from a couple of days ago, Saturday 4th November. It was a Full Moon and I noticed it rising in the distance. I looked around for a framing for a shot as a Full Moon photo on its own can be a little flat and empty.

I noticed that it would rise between a gap in an Oak Tree and decided to take this shot. It is made up of 2 exposures, one on the Moon itself and another on the tree. The tree is lit with an LED torch.

Pink Moon Rise

I was outside tonight just as the Moon had risen above the hilltops. It was bright pink in colour, I’m assuming it was the same in other locations of the Northen Hemisphere too, particularly in the same Time Zone. Did you also see it?

We have some Palm trees at the front of the house that are lit by LED lights which I used to create a frame for the shot.

The credit to the framing has to go to my partner, Emma, who spotted this a few days ago albeit the Moon was the other side of the Palm tree (possibly a better frame too but don’t tell her!).

Supermoon from Portugal

Finally! I’ve managed to pick the camera up since moving to Portugal! It was a rush to get in the right spot (even though it’s in the land next to ours!).

I couldn’t turn down the Supermoon. It’s not the greatest quality shot but considering it was a bit of a rush to set everything up, I’m just happy to have a photo to show.

The photo is made up from 2 separate shots of the scene. One focused and metered on the Moon and the other on the landscape with a remote flash to light the ruin. A camera can’t capture a shot like this in one photo like the human eye can see it, so it’s the only way to capture it. The 2 shots have then been merged in Photoshop.

85% Waxing Gibbous

With just a few days before Full Moon and 85% illuminated, the current phase is Waxing Gibbous which is the phase when there is more than 50% illuminated but not Full.

Not the sharpest Moon shot I’ve got which I can only think could be down to a small amount of haze in the sky.

Waxing Gibbous (68%)

As the sky was clear tonight, I thought I’d try a moon shot with the 500mm and teleconverter to see how much quality was lost.

I first tried it with the 2x converter (TC-20eiii) to give a whopping 1000mm but didn’t like the final outcome as I thought it looked too soft. This photo was taken with the 1.7x converter (TC-17eii) and it was a little better.
