Last year I visited Arco de Albandeira for a sunset photo and unexpected haze arrived, surely it couldn’t happen again? Er, yes!
After a cloudy start yesterday morning, the forecast was looking perfect for a typical Algarve colourful sunset so I decided to head to Arco de Albanderia near Porches for a sunset shot. As I arrived it was immediately clear that the typical Algarve sunset wasn’t going to happen. However, I decided to stay and photograph it anyway. Sometimes, even if you think the results are going to be terrible, you are pleasantly surprised. This image will be available in print (along with many others) when my new print shop goes live (hopefully) tomorrow.
Can you see the Fisherman on the cliff in the distance?

I took Wally for late walk today as I couldn’t this morning. So we headed down to the river at sunset to be greeted with a colourful sky.
Armed with just my Samsung Galaxy S9+ Smartphone I grabbed these 2 shots and edited them in Lightroom on the phone too.
Happy New Year and here’s to a great 2019!

It’s looking like it may be a great sunset tonight which reminded me that I didn’t share a photo from a few nights ago.
I sat near a Cork Oak and waited until the moment the sky changed from orange to darkness and captured it with a purple haze giving a nice light. These colours within photos often look a little strange which I think is due to the fact that the sky only stays this colour for a very short time.

This afternoon, sunset was approaching and there were some high faint clouds developing along with some airplane trails, so I headed to (what I call) Eagle Ridge to look for a shot of the developing sunset.
I decided to use a nearby Cork Oak for the focal point, sitting slightly higher up the ridge than many more trees. This is also the first time I used the built-in Focus Stacking feature of the Nikon D850.
Center of the photo are the mountain tops of Picota (left) and Fóia (right).

Back in March, I went to take sunset and dusk shots at the fantastic Albandeira Arch. I really wasn’t happy with the results of both the photo and post-editing.
Today, I was going through some old work and once again stumbled across this session. During this year, I have approached my post work differently to achieve my results, so I adopted this new approach and had another go at editing one of the shots from this session. I am now extremely happy with this final image. It just goes to show that you should never just automatically delete photos you are not happy with, it could just be a bad day of creativity, a sort of photographers writers block.

Last night I ventured out just before sunset in hope the skies would turn red and I’d get a nice backdrop to our local village, São Marcos da Serra. The red sky never came, however, just in case I took some photos of the sun disappearing behind the ridge and then I waited until dusk had settled in giving a nice backlight glow.
