This Week’s Featured Print – White Stork Attack

With my Morning With The White Storks Of Silves Field Trip coming up in just a few weeks I thought I’d get in the mood for these amazing birds.

This week’s featured print is a shot from February 2018 of a White Stork coming into to attack another already on a nest. It was trying to battle for the rights of this nest, it failed!

For me, it has become an icon of these amazing birds and really shows that they are not always the gentle giants they look. Take a look at the Blog Post from this encounter as it also has many other fighting photographs from this day.

This Week’s Featured Print – Sunset Over Castelo De Silves

This shot was one of my most satisfying ones to date. Earlier in the day I had predicted a colourful sunset due to the high thin clouds but about an hour before sunset lots of much thicker high clouds rolled in. However, I trusted my instinct and headed to a favourite spot just outside the city of Silves that has an amazing view of the Castle and Cathedral and waited. The sunset was a little disappointing as the thick clouds remained, however, by the time the “2nd sunset” arrived (usually 10 to 20 minutes after sunset) the clouds had started to clear and the sky lit up in a collection of colours.

I underexposed the shot to create a magical silhouette of the Castle and Cathedral against this magnificent backdrop.

This Week’s Featured Print : Sunset Riders

This week’s featured print is only a few weeks old and I keep seeing it and keep admiring it. It came as complete luck, twice!

It is a small group of horse riders on top of the sand dunes at Salgados silhouetted by the orange glow of the sunset, the fact that a pair of Glossy Ibis flew into the frame was amazing.

Read the Sunset Riders – A Double Lucky Shot blog post for full details.

Of course, as usual for featured prints, there is a small discount applied for both framed and unframed prints. The contrast between black and orange looks amazing in print!

This Week’s Featured Print: Long Exposure Sunset

This week’s feature print started off as an experiment in March that resulted in an amazing image.

The Spring sunset was turning very colourful due to some high clouds. Although the wind level on the ground was low, the high clouds were moving at a fast rate. I decided to take a long exposure to blur the clouds. It turned into a spectacular image with some fantastic colours contrasted by the silhouette of the ridge line.

As with all Featured Prints, grab yourself a discounted purchase. This image is available in two sizes either unframed or framed with a choice of 4 colours!

This Week’s Featured Print: Ready To Pounce (Short-Eared Owl)

This week’s featured print is also a new addition to the Shop, however, it was taken back in March 2016.

I spent many weeks photographing 2 Short-Eared Owls that were wintering in an area near the city of Derby in England, either arriving before sunrise or an hour before sunset. The were totally fine with my presence. Usually shooting with the 500mm f/4 lens with a 1.4x teleconverter attached I was able to get some close-ups, but also some great atmospheric shots when the Owls where at a distance. Of course, the sunrise and sunset colours always providing an incredible backdrop.

With this particular shot the Owl had spotted something on the ground and was just about to pounce. It did, but came back up empty!

I printed this photograph to put on display at last weekends International Algarve Fair and it looks amazing printed and mounted behind glass, so it is now available for purchase and of course, is this week’s featured print.
