Bats Roosting

DISCLAIMER!: BATS ARE PROTECTED THROUGHOUT THE EU AND NOBODY MORE THAN ME RESPECTS THIS, ONCE I STUMBLED ACROSS THESE BATS I ENSURED THAT I DID NOT DISTURB THEM, PHOTOGRAPHED THEM AND LET THEM BE. IT MAY APPEAR TO BE LIGHT IN THERE, BUT IT WASN’T IT IS A COMBINATION OF HIGH ISO AND POST EDITING!

I was looking inside an abandoned ruin today in the hope that I’d possible spot evidence of Owls nesting, however, imagine my surprise when I saw these to little critters hanging from a roof support. A large hole through to an adjoining room without a roof let enough light in to get 2 shots with the camera set to a high ISO (ISO 4000). As I’ve already mentioned, I was overly careful not to disturb the Bats and photographed these from a distance. I have then done the best I can using Lightroom, DXO Optics Pro and Photoshop to make them good enough to view.

I don’t know enough about Bats to identify them, if anyone knows, feel free to let me know, the first was much larger than the second at around 7cm long (feet to edge of wings).

UPDATE: After talking with the excellent oracle of wildlife, Bill Woodley, although impossible to ID without any visible features, we think these maybe Greater Horseshoe Bats. He has recommended getting a Bat Detector to ID from their frequencies.
