Sunrise At Ponta Da Piedade, Lagos

Ponta da Piedade is a stunning location near Lagos and can be found on the end of the headland, where there is a lighthouse too. The waterside at Ponta da Piedade is reached by what seems like thousands of steps and at 6am in December it is dark, completely dark. Armed with a powerful Mountain Bike LED light I reach the bottom only to be greeted with quite a rough sea. It was too dangerous to stand on the man-made concrete pad so changed my location to slightly higher up than planned. My plans of capturing the first light of the sun peeking around the rock formation was still perfect. As I waited everything became brighter and eventually I was bathed in sunshine capturing this shot which I have titled “Sunlight Arrives”.

It is available in print (framed and unframed) in the web shop, more details HERE.

Moody Sunset

I was scouting the Algarve’s south coast yesterday for some locations an decided to head to Praia de São Lourenço, a tiny cove beach near Galé to hopefully get a “2nd sunset” shot. A 2nd sunset can occur anywhere up to 30 minutes after the sun has dissappeared below the horizon where the sun’s rays light up the sky. There were a few clouds ready for the show, however, it didn’t happen.

On it’s way down to the horizon the sun poked through the clouds providing an incredible contrasting light. Although I dint get the shot I was hoping for, I did come away with this amazing view.

This photograph is available in print. Read more….

Everybody Loves The Algarve!

I was on a scouting mission for some sunrise and sunset shots today and although it was an overcast day with terrible light I decided to find a heart at the famous Arco Natural near Praia da Marinha.

There are a few locations along the clifftop that are well-known for making a heart shape, but I wanted to find something a little different and came up with this shot, keeping the horrible sky out of the frame. It’s a long exposure shot using Natural Density filters to smooth out the movement of the sea.

Sunset at Farol de Alfanzina

This shoot was probably my most challenging sunset yet. I wanted to shoot the Farol de Alfanzina (Alfanzina Lighthouse) but also be able to capture the rays of beam. I spent around 3 hours on the cliff to the east of the Lighthouse yesterday afternoon as I prepared the shoot (more information about the shot below).

Should you wish to purchase a print, it is already available in the shop!

Sunset Session At Burgau

Another location ticked off! I was shooting a drone video for my Real Estate venture (FotoSul) on Friday in Burgau and decided to wait until sunset to capture another wish list shot. The weather was fantastic, almost too fantastic as I like a little cloud in my sunset shots but the colours were yet again amazing. I set myself up on the cliff overlooking the village and shot both sunset and dusk. If you like them, they are already available to purchase in the Web Shop

The village of Burgau is a little treasure, although on the South Coast, it is well away from the busy tourist resorts.
