Adobe Lightroom Mobile 2.0 for Android Review

Crop Tool with Auto Straight
Lightroom Mobile 2.0 (Android)

Adobe’s Lightroom Mobile has been around for sometime now and gave photographers the ability to syncronise their Lightroom edits on their PC or Mac to the Adobe Cloud and then continue to edit them a mobile device through a Smart Preview file rather than the original RAW.

Personally, I have never had the need to use this although can see it as a useful tool for some photographers.

Now, Adobe have released version 2.0 on the Android platform which allows you to edit your RAW files (DNG format) captured on your Android device (providing the camera is capable of capturing RAW files).

Adobe Lightroom Mobile 2.0 is completely free, you don’t require a CC subscription to use it. The only function that you need a subscription is to synchronise photos back through Adobe’s Cloud to your desktop version. If all you want to do is take a photo and make some edits and share them, it’s totally free. I think you have to sign up for an Adobe ID, but there is no charge.

You can get the app on Google Play. At time of writing, this new feature is not available on the IOS platform due to what I believe to be Apple restrictions.

Shortie In Flight (plus Video footage)

I decided to have another look through some of my rejected photos of the Short Eared Owls I’ve recently been getting up early for. None of them will make my Flickr Album but even though this shot is both a bit boring (just a side on-shot) and quality isn’t great, I love the sunrise colours of the whole scene so thought I’d share.

Whilst waiting for the sun to come up I thought I’d shoot some film of one of the Owls flying as it was too dark for photos. However, there were a lot of Crows flying around and the Owl would not leave the tree in fear of being mobbed. As the video shows, he was keeping a keen eye on it’s surroundings.

From the Archives – London After Dark (Video)

Almost 2 years ago to the date I spent a week in London and took advantage of the night time to shoot some Timelapse.

This was the finished video. It was a fun week, I spent most of the time cycling around London on a “Boris” bike with all my camera gear on my back.

I apologise for the popup advert that may appear, the music used is licensable and therefore the advert is not in my control.

At 2:04, you can see the International Space Station across the top right of Buckingham Palace. This wasn’t planned, it was a total coincidence, it’s the only moving light coming towards the camera. I learnt a lot about timelapse, particularly the construction of the final film that week, and looking forward to creating more of them soon.

“Bottle Brush” and his Vixen still visits! (Video)

foxscreenshotThe Foxes are still around! This video from last night shows what I think is the Vixen and “Bottle Brush” the male.

Bottle Brush is so called due to his short bushy tail. Last year, the Vixen was limping and as you can see, she is again. However, this is a different injury as last year it was her left leg.

Very impressed with this new Bushnell, the Infrared LEDs are a lot brighter. I did think I stumbled across a bug as it was only recording 15 second clips instead of the 60 seconds I had configured the camera to do. Turns out, if you use the LEDs in full brightness, the maximum you can get is 15 seconds. Possibly down to the amount of power it uses. I imagine the Medium setting will still be adequate.

Testing the new Bushnell NatureView Cam HD Max Live View (Video)

birdfeedersBack last year, I setup a Bushnell NatureView MAX HD camera to capture footage of the Foxes that visit the garden overnight. Although I got some good footage, it wasn’t without frustration. I had the camera exchanged 5 times with various issues from not triggering to crackling audio and eventually I gave up and returned it for a refund.

However, since not having a “trail cam”, I’ve felt a missing gap in my arsenal. Bushnell have recently released a new camera in the line up, the Bushnell NatureView Cam HD Max Live View which has some improvements including an upgrade to 14mp (from 8mp) and a handy external screen for better alignment (although it can’t be used when mounted in a tripod as the screen port is on the bottom).

Snow covered Marchington (Video)

Snow Cover
Snow Cover
At home, near Marchington in East Staffordshire, we had around 2 inches of snow overnight, so I thought I’d send the DJI Phantom 3 Pro up to capture some of the patchwork fields covered in snow.

Even though the area is quite flat with just the famous “Cliff” in some of the shots, the snow really makes for some stunning scenery. It’s amazing how everything looks almost black and white when snow is on the ground and the sky is overcast. Just a little glimpse of green grass poking through the snow in the fields.

Here’s a short video of some of the footage.
