Morning Dog Walk: Spanish Festoon Butterfly

** 20% OFF ALL ACRYLIC PRINTS UNTIL MARCH 31ST **

I take a camera along on my Dog Walks to bring you some of the sightings that I see on my morning walks, these photos are rarely going to be great quality as its hard enough keeping an energetic Dog entertained and get close enough to anything. They also help me identify where species are so that I can plan to return.

The French Lavender are starting to flower and this is attracting a lot of insects and this morning I spotted my first Spanish Festoon of the year. This is a fairly common Butterfly in the Algarve, but even more so in the Northern Hills, particularly where the rock is shale.

Here are a few photos I grabbed on one on a French Lavender. I think this is a male due to the larger light portions (usually with some blue) under the wings (thanks to Wikipedia for that tip!).
