I’m often asked what books I use for reference purposes and with the modern digital age I have to be honest, I don’t use them that often as the Internet or Phone App is usually my first choice.
However, sometimes there’s nothing better than picking up a book for a quick easy access to information. Therefore, I will publish 3 blogs of the 3 books that I often use, none of these posts are adverts that I’m paid for they are simply books that I’ve chosen. This first book is new to my collection and is an amazing reference guide to Amphibians and Reptiles.
The Bloomsbury Field Guide To The Amphibians & Reptiles Of Britain And Europe is a well written guide with amazing illustrations and photographs.
Don’t be put off by the “Britain and Europe” title, there are many books labelled like this that may cause you to think they are a book of Britain with added European information. This isn’t the case, it is a book about European species and I guess if it wasn’t labelled with Britain many people in the UK would not purchase it thinking it wasn’t applicable to them.
The illustrations provided by Ilian Velikov are amazing and a fantastic guide to identification, bearing in mind this book is designed as a Field Guide.
The book also has some amazing photography that I’d be happy to have taken too!
As you would expect, there is a map showing the locations of where the species can be found
This book is quite a new book, originally published in 2016, there is a newer edition (the one that I have) that was published in 2018. If you are looking for the book to avoid confusion, the 1st edition has the ISBN of 9781408154595 and this newer edition is 9781472970428.
Parts 2 & 3 of my of my reference books will be a book for birds and a general Algarve Nature reference which is amazing!
