Clouds Spoilt The Shot…..Almost!

Yesterday afternoon I noticed some light and wispy clouds developing towards the West and knew these would create some great colours at sunset so I headed to a remote Trig Point (These are usually found on high ground and used for triangulation purposes in surveying and orienteering).

As the sun was setting a large area of cloud came rolling off the West coast and spoilt what was going to be an amazingly colourful sunset. However, I still decided to process one of the shots I took.

It’s sort of nice in it’s own right even though it’s not what I was hoping for. I will be returning to this location for another attempt on another evening.

Sunset Palm

I was relaxing in the garden after the excitement of hearing a colony of Bee-eaters returning to the area when I realised that the clouds were going to provide a colourful sunset so I set the camera up using a Palm Tree in the foreground as a silhouette and waited.

It really didn’t disappoint! Our sunset in the hills is about 10 minutes earlier due to the ridges, this can sometimes provide some amazing colours.

The Start Of The End Of The Day

Before you read on, a word of warning! If you are hoping to take a similar photo shown below, please do not look through the viewfinder of a DSLR, it will seriously damage your eye!

Ok, that is out of the way……. Today was another hot spring day in the Algarve and even more so in the Northern Hills. Late afternoon, the strong sun was beginning to set and just before it disappeared behind the ridges of the hills I took this shot directly into it and captured the fantastic glow it was giving. Of course, the sky wasn’t orange at this point, but because it was taken at 400mm only a small portion of the sky is visible, hence why the sun is also huge.

Sunset Session At The Beach!

I keep telling myself that I don’t take enough Seascape shots so whilst I was in Balaia Golf Resort on the weekend taking (Real Estate Shots, I decided to head to Praia de São Rafael for the sunset.

I arrived well before sunset to also use the opportunity to take some product shots of my new Photography Bean Bags which will be launched later today!

Of course, after living here for over 2.5 years, even though the temperatures were mid 20s, it was a nice surprise to see people sunbathing and even swimming in the sea! Soon enough the sun started to lower in the sky and most of the sun-cravers started to leave the beach and replaced by sunset watchers. I set myself up near the iconic rock in the centre of the beach and waited. The result of the session was the following 4 photographs which are shown below in time order. All are available in print in the Shop, please see individual links below each image.

The sunsets here in the hills have been a little disappointing recently, however, tonight made up for it. The high wispy clouds providing the canvas for some stunning colours. I wasn’t prepared, but there’s always something to nearby to create a silhouette shot. This time one of our Palm Trees in the garden.

The Sun Was Trying To Hide This Morning!

I was awake at around sunrise this morning, I looked out of the bedroom window, which faces south, and couldn’t understand why the sky looked grey, but there wasn’t a cloud in my view. So I moved to the Northern side of the house and it was a different view completely.

We are having hot air coming over from Africa currently with temperatures yesterday reaching 43 degrees, it could get even higher over the next few days with rumor of it reaching 50! This warm air is also bringing dust and combined with a small cloud masking the sun, I could see an amazing sunrise coming.

Still in my “Oscar the Grouch” bed shorts (maybe too much info!) I grabbed a camera, lens and tripod and headed outside. Just a few moments later, this was the stunning view!
