Autumn Colours!

Whist we might not get the autumn colours of the falling leaves that northern Europe sees this time of year, we do get other colours, sunset colours.

For the last week the sunset colours have been stunning, today I scouted for a position to capture the colours of the “2nd Sunset”, usually appears 20 minutes after the actual sunset.

I found a spot that I could silhouette a disused windmill (the same one I used for the Super Worm Equinox Moon Rising Above The Algarve Serra shot a while back) and Cork Oak Tree.

Super Worm Equinox Moon Rise

A few weeks ago I hoped to get a shot of February’s Super Moon rising above a ruined Windmill here in the Algarve Hills, however, clouds put a stop to that. Therefore, I had already planned the shot for March’s Worm Moon.

The Full Moon in March is called a Worm Moon due to folklore that believed that the ground frost would melt and the Earthworms would start to emerge. Today is also the Spring Equinox and therefore the name Super Worm Equinox Moon has been given, quite a mouthful!

This afternoon I was in place almost an hour before the Moon would appear above the Windmill. A few small changes of position put me in line for the Moon to rise directly behind the Windmill.

Sunset from the border of the Algarve and Alentejo

This last week we had a visit from my sister (and family) and whilst I was out giving her a tour around the hills, I spotted an abandoned windmill on the top of a ridge and thought it would make a good foreground for a sunset.

This evening, I returned to the windmill just before sundown.

The sunset wasn’t as good as the Algarve can be gifted with, but enough colours to snap a few shots which you can see below;
