Snails At Sunset

Yesterday evening, I headed down to Praia das Cabanas Velhas which is in between Burgau and Salema on the Algarve south coast in hope of some colours at sunset. It was a trek across the large pebbles and rocks on this beach to head to the location with the possibility of the tide cutting off the walk back, so a route up the cliff and along the top was planned. The tide didn’t quite cut the route back, but still chose the cliff option with some spectacular views of dusk setting in.

The exposed rocks were covered with snails and the colours didn’t disappoint.

Prints are available in the Webshop.

Into The Sunset Colours

After the colours not appearing at yesterdays sunset, I wasn’t going to waste the colours tonight but with little time to prepare for a shot I thought I’d try something different.

I grabbed the 500mm lens and decided to shoot “into” the colours and silhouetting a distant ridge here in the Algarve Serra. If you fancy something very different on your wall, prints are available to purchase in the Webshop.

Cloudy Sunset At Praia do Evaristo

All day yesterday the cloud was full of high wispy clouds so I headed to Praia do Evaristo to shoot from the amazing rocks that separate it from Praia do Castelo and watch the thicker cloud developing.

It was immediately apparent that the clouds were getting too thick for a colourful sunset, but I continued to shoot at various stages of the sunset knowing that the camera would be capturing colours that were difficult to see with the human eye. Once back at the computer it was amazing to see the photos that was well worth the patience of waiting and shooting.

Sun or Moon?

If you live in the Algarve and didn’t stay in bed all day then you will have witnessed the sand and dust cloud blown over from the African deserts today. For those that are not in the Algarve and haven’t witnessed these, it’s not pleasant, everything gets covered in sand and if you have a respiratory issue, it’s very uncomfortable. The only thing worse is a sandstorm and I’ve witnessed one of those in Qatar, they hurt, a lot!

Anyway, the cloud and dust seems to be clearing now, but there was still enough in the sky at sunset to create a real diffusion of the suns rays and it almost looked like it was the moon rather than the sun.

If you have travelled to the Middle East, these sunsets are very common due to the dust in the sky.

Silves Sempre…!

When I have some spare time, I often have a play around in Photoshop as there is so many things to learn and keep up to date with.

This morning, I thought of an idea to create some digital art and combine both Wildlife and a sunset in the same image. So I decided to create “Silves Sempre…” which translates to Silves Always.

The main photograph is from Sunset Over Castelo De Silves taken back in September 2019. Silves is well-known for it’s White Stork population and therefore I used an in-flight shot of a White Stork, also shot in Silves as a layer mask to create something a little different.

Very postcard like I think.

Igreja De Nossa Senhora Da Rocha

Whilst I waited for the sun to set for my Christmas Photo, I decided to shoot a photograph when the setting sun was directly behind the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Rocha. For those that are not aware, this is a small church situated right on the end of a small headland near Porches. It is very popular with Algarve weddings.

The Gulls seemed to know exactly where to fly to make the shot even more interesting.

This is available to purchase in print (framed or unframed) in the Web Shop. MORE INFO…
