I have regular requests by artists who wish to use my images as references to create their own artwork. This could be any form of artwork, for example but not limited to, Painting, Sketching, Sculpting or any other form of physical creation.
I spend an incredible amount of time and invest a lot of money in my equipment to capture the images I offer. Whilst photography is my passion, it is also my only source of income. I enjoy capturing and sharing these images with you but at the same time, I need to put food on the table and pay for my expensive equipment.
All my images are protected by international copyright and therefore cannot be used or copied without my prior permission, this includes copy by referencing. If I give permission for my imagery to be used as a reference image for other artists, especially those that will be also trying to “put food on the table” it is only fair that I am compensated for such work. Should I provide permission for you to use my imagery for the purpose of creating artwork for onward sale, then I must request that there is a share of the profit that I am entitled to. This can be discussed on an adhoc basis. I would also request that any sharing of such artwork via any media (social media, newspapers, magazines, newsletters etc.) will also include a credit to me and my website including the original image.
Should artists be wishing to use my images for their own personal use and not for profit (not including charity usage) then I may provide permission for usage, however, I would still demand that the sharing of such artwork via any media (social media, newspapers, magazines, newsletters etc.) will include a credit to me and my website including the original image.
It is unlikely that I will allow my imagery to be copied in exchange for “exposure in media” as this does not “put food on the table”.
I thank you for your interest in recreating my work and hope you understand my position on this matter!
Many thanks
Craig Rogers
