Dawn ’til Dusk Algarve South Coast Photography Tour – Saturday 8th March 2025 Itinerary

Itinerary (This may change, even on the day if the need arises)

• Stop 1 (Sunrise) : Ponta da Piedade, Lagos (incredible rock formations with a great sunrise view)
• Stop 2 : Praia da Marinha (with the famous double-arches)
• Stop 3 : Praia de Albandeira (famous arch)
• Stop 4 : Praia dos Arrifes, Albufeira (fantastic rock formations)
• Stop 5 : Praia do Evaristo, Ablufeira/Galé (strange oddly wordly rock formations)
• Stop 6 : Praia do Castelo, Ablufeira/Galé (a beautiful small beach with a fantastic clifftop view)
• Stop 7 : Prainha, Alvor (fantastic fairy tale beach with arches, rocks and beautiful sand)
• Stop 8 (Sunset) : Praia João de Arens, near Alvor (Cliff top sunset lookout)

Pick-up Times and Locations

• 4:50am – Carvoeiro (Google Map)
• 5:20am – Alvor Taxi Rank, Alvor (Google Map)
• 5:45am – “Big Ball Roundabout”, Lagos (Google Map)

Please try to arrive a few minutes early so that we can stick to the schedule of arriving at the first stop with plenty of time.  Unless you wish, drop-offs will be at the same location, in the following order with approximate times based on an unchanged itinerary;

• 7:15pm – Alvor Taxi Rank, Alvor
• 7:55pm – Big Ball Roundabout, Lagos
• 8:30pm – Carvoeiro

As you can tell, this is going to be a long day.  The transport for the day is a large comfortable, new 9-seater Minibus with plenty of room to relax during the transfers.  Please bring any refreshments and snacks you wish for the entire day.  There will be free bottles of water available throughout the day.

Breakfast and Lunch

It is difficult to accommodate for everyone’s food preferences, therefore, the Breakfast stop will be at a Cafe enroute after leaving the first stop.  Lunch will be a location that has a “Food Hall” and therefore will have plenty of selection for everyone.  Please note, the food is not included and will need to be purchased separately.

Clothing and Footwear

It is very likely to be a day of changeable temperature, therefore, please dress warm.  It’s far better to have to many layers of clothing than not enough, the transport has a lot of space to keep removed layers.  Footwear should be comfortable and suitable for walking on uneven and rocky ground. This isn’t a fitness test (although perhaps the length of the day will test some!) but please be advised that there will be some short walking involved and you may wish to access some of the beaches via the steps.

Visibility

Please be aware that it will be dark at the first stop and dark after the last stop. I will have a high powered light, however, please feel free to bring a torch.

Camera Equipment

There is absolutely no specific requirement of camera gear, but feel free to bring has much or little as you wish.  I will have 2 tripods available to use should anyone wish.

Cancellation due to weather

I hope we get both a colourful sunrise and sunset and glorious weather throughout the day, however, if I could control that, I most probably wouldn’t be a photographer. The day will continue even if the conditions are not perfect. As Jay Maisel once said “There is no bad light. There is spectacular light and difficult light. It’s up to you to use the light you have”. However, should there be the chance that it will be a complete day of rain, then it will be cancelled with the possibility of rescheduling. if this is not possible, a full refund will be given.
