Snails At Sunset

Yesterday evening, I headed down to Praia das Cabanas Velhas which is in between Burgau and Salema on the Algarve south coast in hope of some colours at sunset. It was a trek across the large pebbles and rocks on this beach to head to the location with the possibility of the tide cutting off the walk back, so a route up the cliff and along the top was planned. The tide didn’t quite cut the route back, but still chose the cliff option with some spectacular views of dusk setting in.

The exposed rocks were covered with snails and the colours didn’t disappoint.

Prints are available in the Webshop.

The No Sun Sunrise

“There is no bad light. There is spectacular light and difficult light. It’s up to you to use the light you have.” – Quote by Jay Maisel

I plan a lot of shoots in advance, particulary sunrise seascapes. The weather, the sun angle and of course the tide all play an important part for each location. With the dust cloud lingering from Africa it was a gamble this morning if there would be any good light from the sunrise, I suspected not, so had a Plan B to use the conditions in my favour. Some nice long exposures with a “blown out” background. I tried a few angles and positions, but decided that this was the best from the shoot, this really is something different and is available in print in the Web Shop. The location is near Albuferia Marina.

Sunrise Stack

Another early alarm clock this morning to head down to one of my favourite childhood memory beaches, Praia do Carvalho. If you have visited this beach you can understand that as a 10 year old in 1984, I thought we had discovered this “Pirate Beach” and nobody else knew about it. Of course, in 1984 there was no development on the cliffs surrounding this beach so really did feel very remote.

Just after sunrise (View Sunrise Photo Here), we (yes, Emma came with me too) headed down onto the beach to capture this photo of the single stack that is present at this amazing beach.

First Rays On The Rocks

The first sunrise shot of 2022 at Praia dos Arrifes. There is something magical about arriving on a beach in the dark and witnessing dawn turning to sunrise turning to daylight. This morning I experienced just that, I was on the beach in almost complete darkness whilst I set the camera up with the aid of a torch and waited for sunrise.

This photograph is available as a print in the Web Shop.

Sunset At Carvoeiro

On Friday after an amazing session at Ponta da Piedade I decided to also shoot a sunset at Carvoeiro. So after scouting during the afternoon I returned before sunset to shoot.

The actual sunset was a bit disappointing as some haze arrived (see 2nd photo), but I stayed for the “2nd sunset”, the time around 20 minutes after sunset which can turn any haze amazing colours. I wasn’t disappointed and snapped this great colourful shot.

This first photo, titled “Final Daylight” is available to purchase (framed and unframed) in the Web Shop, click HERE to purchase.

Sunset At Praia de Vale Centeanes

This is a photo from back in February 2018. It was originally just a test shot to confirm the shutter speed with a filter attached, however, I’ve always loved the way the waves are washing over the rocks.

Therefore, as it’s yet another rainy day, I have decided to process this image and it is also now available for sale in print (framed or unframed). Click HERE for the product page.
