Snails At Sunset

Yesterday evening, I headed down to Praia das Cabanas Velhas which is in between Burgau and Salema on the Algarve south coast in hope of some colours at sunset. It was a trek across the large pebbles and rocks on this beach to head to the location with the possibility of the tide cutting off the walk back, so a route up the cliff and along the top was planned. The tide didn’t quite cut the route back, but still chose the cliff option with some spectacular views of dusk setting in.

The exposed rocks were covered with snails and the colours didn’t disappoint.

Prints are available in the Webshop.

Into The Sunset Colours

After the colours not appearing at yesterdays sunset, I wasn’t going to waste the colours tonight but with little time to prepare for a shot I thought I’d try something different.

I grabbed the 500mm lens and decided to shoot “into” the colours and silhouetting a distant ridge here in the Algarve Serra. If you fancy something very different on your wall, prints are available to purchase in the Webshop.

Sunset At Carvoeiro

On Friday after an amazing session at Ponta da Piedade I decided to also shoot a sunset at Carvoeiro. So after scouting during the afternoon I returned before sunset to shoot.

The actual sunset was a bit disappointing as some haze arrived (see 2nd photo), but I stayed for the “2nd sunset”, the time around 20 minutes after sunset which can turn any haze amazing colours. I wasn’t disappointed and snapped this great colourful shot.

This first photo, titled “Final Daylight” is available to purchase (framed and unframed) in the Web Shop, click HERE to purchase.

Crescent Sunset

Yet another fantastic sunset tonight with the sky lit up in spectacular fashion. I was sitting drinking a Sagres (Portuguese beer) and just couldn’t resist grabbing the camera with 500mm lens to take a shot of a nearby ridge silhouetted by the glowing sky. The Crescent Moon was low in the sky as it was setting soon after sunset.

To assist with exposing the Moon correctly, I used exposure bracketing and merged 2 of the shots together.

Autumn Colours!

Whist we might not get the autumn colours of the falling leaves that northern Europe sees this time of year, we do get other colours, sunset colours.

For the last week the sunset colours have been stunning, today I scouted for a position to capture the colours of the “2nd Sunset”, usually appears 20 minutes after the actual sunset.

I found a spot that I could silhouette a disused windmill (the same one I used for the Super Worm Equinox Moon Rising Above The Algarve Serra shot a while back) and Cork Oak Tree.

Sunset Over Castelo De Silves

Shopping, that task that never seems to be more efficient. Yes certain supermarkets in certain countries have tried to speed up the process, but you park in the car park, grab a trolley, fill the trolley, empty the trolley at the checkout, fill the trolley back up, take it to your car, empty the trolley into the car, drive home, empty the car into the house, put shopping in the correct place inside the house! Arrrrrghhhh! It was shopping day and we decided to head out an hour before sunset. I looked to the western skies and thought that just maybe the high clouds would create some colour.

We drove to Silves and the cloud cover was getting thicker, but I decided to still go to a favourite spot that over looks the city with a great view of the Castle. As the sun got lower, the clouds seemed to thin out, it was a gamble that paid off! We were treated to a fantastic colourful sky! Of course, then we went shopping……
