After the colours not appearing at yesterdays sunset, I wasn’t going to waste the colours tonight but with little time to prepare for a shot I thought I’d try something different.
I grabbed the 500mm lens and decided to shoot “into” the colours and silhouetting a distant ridge here in the Algarve Serra. If you fancy something very different on your wall, prints are available to purchase in the Webshop.
Last night’s sunset was yet again a colourful one. Not quite as bright as the last few days, but some clouds did add to the mood. On top of (what I call) Eagle Ridge had a great view of it, I selected a young Cork Oak tree to place in the foreground. I also wanted to capture the bright glow lighting up the foreground and the tops of the Pine Trees in the valley below me.
This image along with the previous night’s Crescent Sunset are available to purchase in the shop.
A few weeks ago I hoped to get a shot of February’s Super Moon rising above a ruined Windmill here in the Algarve Hills, however, clouds put a stop to that. Therefore, I had already planned the shot for March’s Worm Moon.
The Full Moon in March is called a Worm Moon due to folklore that believed that the ground frost would melt and the Earthworms would start to emerge. Today is also the Spring Equinox and therefore the name Super Worm Equinox Moon has been given, quite a mouthful!
This afternoon I was in place almost an hour before the Moon would appear above the Windmill. A few small changes of position put me in line for the Moon to rise directly behind the Windmill.

Before you read on, a word of warning! If you are hoping to take a similar photo shown below, please do not look through the viewfinder of a DSLR, it will seriously damage your eye!
Ok, that is out of the way……. Today was another hot spring day in the Algarve and even more so in the Northern Hills. Late afternoon, the strong sun was beginning to set and just before it disappeared behind the ridges of the hills I took this shot directly into it and captured the fantastic glow it was giving. Of course, the sky wasn’t orange at this point, but because it was taken at 400mm only a small portion of the sky is visible, hence why the sun is also huge.

I decided to take Wally on the “Cork Oak Route” this morning, this walk takes us up one of the tall ridges here in the hills through an area full of Cork Oak. The view was stunning as always. The 2 trees in the foreground are Cork Oak, you can see where the one of the right has been harvested for it’s Cork. We are lucky enough to have some Cork Oaks and they are due for harvesting in May. I will be writing an article on the whole process.
I thought I’d see how good multiple images from my Samsung Galaxy S8+ Smartphone would stitch together in Lightroom as a Panorama. Yes, of course, I could just take a Pano shot on the phone, but the resulting image would be jpeg and not Raw. I still wanted to be able to edit the images. Therefore, I took 4 shots in Pro Mode, saved as Raw (dng), edited the photos in Lightroom and then used the Panorama stitching tool to create this image.

Tonight I was sitting in the garden, just after 7:30pm, watching yet another colourful sunset over the hills when I turned around to see a completely different scene.
First, here is the photo of the sunset to the West…….
