Wintery Scenes from South Wales

Facebooktwittermail

I have just returned from visiting family in my hometown of Bedwas in South Wales. The timing of my trip was a complete coincidence that snow arrived. South Wales did not receive the levels of snowfall that some other parts of Wales and the rest of the UK had, but still enough to make me put on levels of clothing I’d not worn since my trip to Iceland and head out for a walk. These freezing day time temperatures were certainly not what I’ve become used to.

I was travelling very light and did not take a camera so it was down to my mobile (Samsung Galaxy S8+) to snap some shots. I used the camera in Pro mode, captured in Raw (DNG) and made some slight tweaks in Lightroom.

Snow covered Marchington (Video)

At home, near Marchington in East Staffordshire, we had around 2 inches of snow overnight, so I thought I’d send the DJI Phantom 3 Pro up to capture some of the patchwork fields covered in snow.

Even though the area is quite flat with just the famous “Cliff” in some of the shots, the snow really makes for some stunning scenery. It’s amazing how everything looks almost black and white when snow is on the ground and the sky is overcast. Just a little glimpse of green grass poking through the snow in the fields.

Here’s a short video of some of the footage.

You may have seen Grumpy Cat doing the rounds on the Internet, but this morning I found Grumpy Robin.

Maybe he wasn’t happy that we’ve had a couple of inches of snow. However, he has an abundance of Suet to feed on in the garden!
