I’m Now Available As A Guest Speaker

I was invited to provide a presentation and talk at the Rotary Club of Silves yesterday and decided to use this as a potential new service to offer.

I thoroughly enjoyed my talk which contained a selection of my photographs with a background to the work involved to capture the image. I also received very positive and pleasing feedback from the Rotarians. I have now decided to launch this as a service, if you have an event that you would like a Guest Speaker, or simply would like to have a bespoke presentation, I would be glad to open a discussion about it.

More information can be seen on the new Nature Photography Talk/Guest Speaker Page, with prices from just €50 I would be happy to present a topic of your choosing or a general Photography and/or Nature themed talk.

I can provide a 40″ high Definition TV Screen if required and would be happy to erect a printed gallery of my work with the option to purchase. If you are a registered charity, then my fees can be very flexible.

NOW SOLD: Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Prime Lens

UPDATE: This lens is now sold.

I have decided to sell my awesome 300mm f/2.8 Prime Lens. I’d rather not, but I rarely use this lens and I am planning some upgrades and printing equipment purchases. This lens is widely known as one of the sharpest, fastest focusing sports and wildlife lenses on the market. It also is the “fast” version with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. It is a Full Frame Lens and will therefore work on both Nikon Full Frame (FX) and Crop (DX) camera bodies.

Kingfisher On The Perch! (Video)

It may not be what I need, but at least one has landed on the perch. As you can see, this is a female due to the red lower beak, males are black. Could this be Princessa? Quite possible, I really hope so.

Interestingly enough, this was captured at 11:23am which is around a similar time to when my Nature Walk came near this area. It could be that she landed on the perch to hide from us.

Princessa? Maybe.

Kingfisher Update!

This morning I sat at the river and watched a Kingfisher (or maybe Kingfishers) flying back and forth along the river. I’m almost certain that one of them was carrying a fish in its beak and I noticed that they/it was going back to the same location. This location is on the riverbank on our land, but very difficult to get a good view unless I swim!

I believe that there is a nest site here as they constantly flew back and forth, you could also sense they didn’t like my presence so I took a terrible picture and left them to it. There is a spot on the opposite side of the river that I can watch from a distance, however, it involves climbing a fence of someone else’s property. I will find the owner of the field and ask their permission first.

Here is the terrible picture, it was quick reactions, but either the Kingfisher is flying too fast for even 1/2500sec, or possible, the camera has missed the focus. I think it’s a combination of both. If I was sat here waiting, I would of pre-focused on part of the river and waited for the Kingfisher to fly into the focal plane.
