I hosted a small private walk around Ludo this morning and one of the highlights was a Little Egret trying to swallow an Eel that it had caught. Every time it swallowed it, the Eel would wriggle back out. After 5 minutes of watching it, it managed to swallow it down.
Sometimes it’s great to go over old photos and process ones that you never got around to doing. In a bizarre train of thought, I was talking to a lady who wants to attend a Digital Photography Fundamentals Workshop once they are back up and running and she told me that she was photographing Flamingos near Faro. It had also been foggy here in the Algarve hills that morning and it reminded me of this photo I shot back in 2019. So I dug it out and processed it.

After a great week visiting, I dropped my sister and niece at Faro airport very early yesterday morning so used the opportunity to visit Ludo at sunrise to back-light the Greater Flamingos.
Rather than re-write information about these magnificent birds, you can read an article I wrote for the Algarve Resident last year (Read here…).
Currently there are a huge number of Greater Flamingos gathered at Ludo and after short wait a small group started to argue which gave the perfect scene directly into the sun.

I take a camera along on my Dog Walks to bring you some of the sightings that I see on my morning walks, these photos are rarely going to be great quality as its hard enough keeping an energetic Dog entertained and get close enough to anything. They also help me identify where species are so that I can plan to return.
This mornings Wally walk was different, Emma (my better half) is visiting the UK, so after dropping her at the airport we headed to Ludo right at the western end of the runway for a walk.
We saw many species of bird life as you’d expect from being inside the Ria Formosa park. The biggest joy was watching an Osprey searching for food. It was around an hour before it finally swooped down and caught a large fish, unfortunately, well out of reach of the camera.
I did manage to grab this shot of her, I think it’s a female due to the large size of the body.
