The Goldfinches are having to share their Nyger seed!

WARNING! Terrible quality photo, look away if you are offended!

This afternoon, I was running a cleaning procedure on my pond pumps which is about 4 metres from one of the bird feeding stations in the garden when I heard a bird call I didn’t recognise.

I look up and there is a pair (Male and Female) of Siskins looking to come down to the Nyger Feeder. It required a bit of a top up, so I grabbed some seed and topped it up. Of course, by now they had flown away, so I went back to the kitchen and waited.

Soon enough they came back to feed. It was raining at the time and as the kitchen window is around 25 metres away from the feeders I grabbed my D7100 (crop sensor for extra reach) and put my 500mm f/4 and 2x Teleconverter on to try and at least get a record shot.

Actually, it’s a terrible photo, but considering it’s a crop sensor at ISO4000 handheld at 1/125second through a window with it raining outside and with a 2x converter, I didn’t expect it to be this good!

Once the weather clears over the next few days, I’ll get out there in the hide and hopefully get a few snaps.

It’s the first time I’ve seen Siskins in the garden so pretty happy that more and more birds are visiting.

Lion Re-edit

Another re-edit of a photo from Kruger National Park in South Africa when I visited in 2011.

This little Cub kept running up to our Land Rover to investigate whilst it’s siblings just stayed with Mum.

This was almost 5 years ago, I wonder if it’s still prowling Kruger as a fully grown adult? I hope so!

It’s not the perfect photo, light was fading quickly and was shot with a slow shutter speed. It’s also shot at ISO400, which although I loved the D70s, this was pushing the limits of the camera, anything higher had serious noise issues.

I have for sale my DJI Phantom 3 Professional Drone.

Adobe Lightroom Mobile 2.0 for Android Review

Crop Tool with Auto Straight
Lightroom Mobile 2.0 (Android)

Adobe’s Lightroom Mobile has been around for sometime now and gave photographers the ability to syncronise their Lightroom edits on their PC or Mac to the Adobe Cloud and then continue to edit them a mobile device through a Smart Preview file rather than the original RAW.

Personally, I have never had the need to use this although can see it as a useful tool for some photographers.

Now, Adobe have released version 2.0 on the Android platform which allows you to edit your RAW files (DNG format) captured on your Android device (providing the camera is capable of capturing RAW files).

Adobe Lightroom Mobile 2.0 is completely free, you don’t require a CC subscription to use it. The only function that you need a subscription is to synchronise photos back through Adobe’s Cloud to your desktop version. If all you want to do is take a photo and make some edits and share them, it’s totally free. I think you have to sign up for an Adobe ID, but there is no charge.

You can get the app on Google Play. At time of writing, this new feature is not available on the IOS platform due to what I believe to be Apple restrictions.

International Space Station Trail

The ISS is again passing over the UK at regular intervals and tonight was a clear night to see a very bright passing.

To avoid star trails, this photo is made up of 4 separate shots using the D810’s internal intervalometer and then layered together in Photoshop.

If you wish to view the ISS passing over, check out www.n2yo.com or one of the many other websites and mobile apps that are available to give you details of the passes.
